The Power of Women Consumers
That’s right, one more thing women are good at besides that huge laundry list of great qualities we have is….spending money! Women are, by far, the most powerful consumers. Specifically women who are in the “baby-boomer” generation. These women have the power to show companies what it is they like or don’t like by how they spend their money. Most sites, including UNPAC quote around 80% for the percentage of purchases made by women. Marketing to Women has some interesting statistics regarding baby-boomer and states that Women over 50 make 80% of buying decisions for households that have 80% of the nation’s money.
Businesses are becoming more and more aware of how powerful women consumers are. More of their marketing and advertising is being directed towards women. Time magazine has some great charts and graphs to point out the growing buying power of women. Even industries like car dealers that were one industry not typically marketed to women are turning the corner and realizing the influence of women. Now that you realize the power that you all have, consider next time you make a purchase what message your purchase is sending to the company about what it is women want and what women like. Women have the power to change a lot about what is on the market today and send a message about what our money is worth spending on. We have the power to make decisions that will affect the economy and affect how companies see us as a whole. So next time you go on a shopping spree and get that shopping guilt, consider telling yourself that you just sent some powerful messages to those businesses you chose to shop with 🙂
