The Influence of Women in Business
Women are influential, that much we now. But how does the business world view women and their influence? Last week we discussed the Power of Women Consumers and how women are making most of the buying decisions and ultimately have the power to say what we are looking for in today’s market. I thought a good topic to go along with that would be the influence of women in business.
In general, women are under-represented on company boards and in management positions. The Corporate Library has a recent research study to show these numbers. This paper Women’s Influence on Business Management in the Last 40 Years by Ranni Hillyer attempts to describe how the role of women in business has evolved over the last forty year. She describes how women have come to find a better balance between work and home life over the last forty years. More laws have been put in place to protect women during this time as well. Personally, I really liked what she had to say about women gaining more of an entrepreneurial spirit
Women have learned to be more entrepreneurial lately. Women generally recognize that business actually gives us an opportunity to learn about ourselves and what we are capable of. Being an entrepreneur and thinking like one empowers us. Women have been leaders in seeing this potential and are starting businesses in rapidly growing numbers.
So even though women are not outnumbering men in corporate positions in business, we have come a long way in the past forty years. We are constantly growing and evolving and learning where our place is in the business world.
