The Importance of Networking with Other Women
Women often have each others back in many different situations from dropping off meals after a new baby is born to being a empathetic ear on the other end of the phone when you have had a bad day. In business, as in life, women need to have each others backs as well. By supporting and encouraging each other we can continue to improve our ranks in the workplace and succeed. Many times you may hear the expression “it is not what you know, it is who you know” and this is very true in business as well. Knowing other women who can help you get a leg up when you need it is very important. Networking both online and off is a great way to get to know other women in your field. Meeting other women on social networks online may not seem like a real relationship at first but many of these relationships can turn in to business partnerships or just a relationship where you help promote one another and refer people to each other’s business. It is funny how many of these online acquaintances turn in to actual real friendships. In person networking is very important as well. Meetup.com is a great site to find groups on your area that share your interests and meet to network. You really can learn so much from others by hearing how they have built their business and succeeded. Some of the groups are specifically for women entrepreneurs and you will probably find you have a lot in common with the women there. Another great place to network in person is by attending conferences. In our next post we will discuss how attending these conferences can help you build your business and increase the opportunities you are open to.
In our last post we discussed the Influence of Women in Business and how women are continuing to improve their status in the business world. We can help each other with this process by encouraging and promoting one another. We also recently discussed the Power of Women Consumers and if you are a woman in business this is something very important to be aware of and to market to. As a consumer we can also help promote women in business by choosing to shop with women owned businesses when we can. All in all, women can do a lot to help each other along in the business world as well as the real world so make sure you are surrounded by influential women who can mentor, influence and encourage you along on your way.
