Love and Money
Love and money….both complicated subjects and sometimes conflicting. On Valentines Day I thought I would discuss a recent article I came across regarding The Importance of Financial Compatibility in a Relationship. This got me thinking about how much thought goes in to this subject in a relationship. It is probably one of those things that you don’t think about until it comes up in a relationship. Some factors brought up in this article are having separate or joint checking accounts, being held accountable for money, who has control over the finances and how to handle different investment strategies. These are all important things to discuss in any serious relationship. Studies in the past have shown that money is often the number one thing couples fight over. This study takes this one step further by stating that divorce can be predicted by how much a couple fights over finances. It is part of the “State of our Unions” document released by the University of Virgina which focuses on Money and Marriage. So on this Valentines Day instead of having a conversation about romance you may do your relationship more good by having a good conversation about money.
